Rewarewa Honey

Rewarewa is Māori for King. Rewarewa Honey comes from the nectar of the Rewarewa tree, also known as the honey-suckle tree. The elegant and stately Rewarewa tree stands tall and high above the other trees in New Zealand’s native bush.

New Zealand’s early settlers and bush workers referred to the Rewarewa tree as the honey-suckle tree because its nectar dripped from its flowers on hot days in early summer.

During the late spring and early New Zealand summer (November-December) the tree covered with masses of beautiful, but delicate, red flowers which freely release their nectar.  The honey collected from the tree has a beautiful deep reddish amber appearance and rich, full-bodied  caramel-like taste.
